The Everyday Battle is a short animated portrait created for a school assignment centered on capturing the essence of someone close to you in under a minute. Inspired by my roommate and best friend, Kate Klein a talented graphic designer this piece contrasts dramatic fantasy tropes with relatable real-world humor. The short explores the inner tension of balancing creative passion and high-stakes artistic dedication against the simple, vital need to pause, rest, and reset.

Production & Process Highlights:

Live Action Reference: To give the swordfight real weight and dynamic force, I filmed video references using my friends including one who brought a real metal sword to capture accurate physics, momentum, and arcs. Graphic Design-Inspired Aesthetics: Honoring Kate’s graphic design background, I incorporated bold graphic textures, strong shapes, and distinct color palette shifts to separate the dramatic battle void from the relaxed beach setting. Core Message: A lighthearted homage to my roommate's incredible work ethic, and a humorous reminder of the constant struggle between non-stop creative grinding and taking time to recharge.
